Water as Wellness: Why We Chose Pentair Naia for Mysa Hus

When we started designing Mysa Hus, we knew we wanted to approach wellness differently. This wasn't going to be a home filled with trendy products just so we could check boxes. Every material, system, and design decision needed to contribute to the larger goal: creating a home that feels good to live in.

We talked about indoor air quality. We talked about non-toxic materials, insulation, natural light, movement, recovery, and the way different spaces make you feel. But one of the most important conversations we had was about something most homeowners use all day, every day without giving it much thought: Water. For Mysa Hus, that conversation ultimately led us to Pentair and the Naia by Everpure Home whole-home water treatment system.

Rethinking Water in a Wellness-Focused Home

The moment water really clicked for me as a building science conversation happened during a visit to Pentair's Minneapolis facility. Honestly, it felt less like walking through a manufacturing plant and more like touring a high-tech laboratory. There were electron microscopes, centrifuges, engineers, and people studying water at a molecular level. And Pentair framed water in a way that made complete sense for Mysa Hus: water is foundational wellness.

As builders, we spend a lot of time thinking about what goes into a healthy home. We specify better ventilation systems. We look carefully at insulation. We consider paints, finishes, adhesives, and other materials that affect indoor air quality. Meanwhile, water is something we drink, cook with, shower in, wash our clothes in, clean our homes with, and run through some of the most expensive fixtures and appliances in the house. Water Treatment Matters

Custom home clients understandably spend a lot of time thinking about the things they'll see: Cabinetry. Tile. Countertops. Plumbing fixtures. Lighting. Hardware. Those decisions matter. But part of our job as builders is also to think about everything happening behind the walls that will determine how those beautiful finishes perform five, ten, or twenty years from now.

That's why we like to shift the water conversation away from point-of-use solutions (a filtered pitcher in the refrigerator or a filter under the kitchen sink) and toward whole-home infrastructure. Think of it the same way you would HVAC, radiant floor heating, or ventilation. It's a system that affects the performance and experience of the entire house.

With Mysa Hus, there were really two sides to that conversation. The first was wellness: What kind of water are you drinking? What are you showering in? How does it affect your skin and hair? The second was protection: What is that water doing to your custom plumbing fixtures, tile, glass, appliances, and mechanical systems every single day? Once you look at water through both lenses, whole-home treatment starts feeling less like an optional upgrade and more like a necessary step.

Naia Changes Everyday Life

I can give you a technical explanation of the Naia system, but what matters more is what living with it actually feels like. Traditionally, getting really high-quality water throughout a home could require several separate systems: a softener in one place, carbon filtration somewhere else, reverse osmosis under the kitchen sink, and potentially remineralization on top of that. Naia consolidates those functions into one whole-home appliance. The result is that clean, balanced water isn't something homeowners have to seek out in one particular spot. It's simply the water throughout the house.

One challenge with sophisticated water treatment has traditionally been the amount of equipment required to accomplish it. Custom mechanical rooms can become crowded quickly. Multiple tanks, filters, pumps, and plumbing lines require valuable space, and each additional component adds complexity. Depending on the setup, maintaining adequate water pressure when several fixtures are running can also become a concern.

That was another reason Naia made sense for Mysa Hus. Its all-in-one format allowed us to keep the mechanical space clean and organized which is something that fit perfectly with the Scandinavian simplicity we wanted throughout the project.

More importantly, we weren't trading performance for that simplicity. The system was designed to support whole-home water demand, meaning the homeowners can run a bath while the washing machine and dishwasher are going without suddenly sacrificing the water experience somewhere else in the house. That's the kind of building technology I love: complicated engineering producing an incredibly uncomplicated experience for the homeowner.

Why Pentair Earned a Place in Mysa Hus

At Mark D. Williams Custom Homes, we don't choose products simply because they have a recognizable name or look good in photographs. We want to understand how they work.

Pentair impressed us because of the level of research behind the Naia system and the company's experience in commercial water filtration. This wasn't simply a traditional residential water softener repackaged for the luxury market. There was serious research and development behind how the system treats water.

Remineralization in particular stood out to me. Traditional reverse osmosis removes an enormous amount from water, including naturally occurring minerals. Naia's approach is designed to filter targeted contaminants while creating balanced, remineralized water on the other side. It isn't simply, "Let's take everything out." It's asking, "What don't we want in the water, what do we want to preserve or restore, and what creates the best final result?"

Depending on the home's water conditions, hardness and other water-quality issues can contribute to scale, residue, staining, and premature wear on plumbing fixtures and appliances. So when we talk about systems like Naia, we're talking about protecting the investment you've made throughout the entire home. That's why water belongs in the conversation long before move-in day.
