Moments of Delight
Mysa Hus was designed to be experienced slowly, with moments of delight woven throughout. Listen along for a deeper understanding of the spaces, materials, and decisions that shape it.
Experience Mysa Hus more intentionally with the audio guide below.
01 — Entry
Inspired by Norwegian folklore, brass stars are woven into the parquet floor as a repeating motif throughout the home. With its linseed oil finish, the floor feels warm, organic, and lived in, creating a moment that invites you to slow down, reach out, and experience the craftsmanship beneath your feet.
02 — Fireplace
The fireplace became the emotional anchor of Mysa Hus from the very beginning. When the home was first imagined, the vision was simple: snow falling outside, a wool blanket, a warm fire, and a quiet moment to slow down. That feeling shaped everything that followed. The wood-burning fireplace was designed intentionally, inspired by childhood memories of bringing firewood inside with my dad during Minnesota winters, and later, sitting beside the fire with my own daughter.
03 — Plaster
What makes plaster special is that it isn't perfect. You can see the movement of the artist's hand in every surface, making each wall a one-of-a-kind work of art. Its soft, warm glow brings an organic, lived-in feeling to the home, while its durability makes it ideal for everyday family life. As an added benefit, plaster can help absorb particles from the air, making it a natural fit for the wellness-focused design of Mysa Hus.
04 — Soundproofing
Some of the most important features in Mysa Hus are the ones you can't see. Inspired by the quiet, restorative feeling of being in the woods or the mountains, the home was designed to reduce sound and create a sense of calm. Through layers of sound-dampening materials hidden within the walls, floors, ceilings, and windows, every effort was made to make the home feel quieter, cozier, and more tranquil. The goal was simple: to create space for the kind of quiet moments that help us slow down and recharge.
05 — Wellness Center
The Wellness Center challenges the traditional idea of what a home gym can be. Rather than being tucked away in a dark basement, it was intentionally placed in a detached structure filled with natural light and a direct connection to the outdoors. The goal was to create a destination, a place to step away from the demands of everyday life and focus on movement, recovery, work, or reflection. Designed with flexibility in mind, the space can evolve alongside the lifestyle and wellness journey of its owners.
06 — Sauna and Plunge
Designed as a place to slow down, recover, and reconnect, the sauna and cold plunge create a wellness experience that feels both intentional and inviting. The sauna's compact footprint encourages a shared, communal atmosphere, while thermally modified wood and a ceiling filled with fiber optic lights create a warm, immersive environment. Just outside, the cold plunge and private outdoor shower make contrast therapy effortless, transforming this corner of Mysa Hus into a peaceful retreat for restoration and renewal.
07 — Green Roof
The green roof was created to bring beauty where it is least expected. Visible from the bedrooms, patio, and backyard, it replaces a traditional roof surface with a living landscape filled with texture, color, and seasonal change. Thoughtfully designed with drought-tolerant plantings and horticultural expertise, the green roof helps blur the line between architecture and nature, creating a view that continues to evolve throughout the seasons.
08 — Sunroom
The entrance to the sunroom was designed as a moment of transition within the home. Framed by a custom archway and interior windows, the space allows natural light to flow deep into the great room while creating a distinct destination of its own. Whether used for dining, reading, games, or gathering, the sunroom was intentionally designed to feel flexible, inviting, and filled with warmth throughout the day.
09 — Pantry
Concealed behind custom wood paneling, the pantry is one of Mysa Hus's hidden gems. Designed to support the kitchen behind the scenes, it provides a hardworking space that helps keep the main living areas clean, organized, and refined. Yet what makes the pantry truly memorable is its unexpected connection to natural light. A steel and glass door allows sunlight to pass through the space, creating a bright, welcoming atmosphere where one might least expect it. What could have been a simple utility room instead becomes a surprising moment of beauty and discovery.
10 — Directional Arrow
Inspired by the trail markers found in the mountains and throughout Europe, this sign serves as a visual map of the places and experiences that influenced Mysa Hus. Each destination points to a meaningful connection, from Swedish heritage and Scandinavian inspiration to family memories in Glacier National Park and the charm of Cottagewood. What appears to be a simple trail sign is, in many ways, a reflection of the journey that helped bring Mysa Hus to life.
11 — Rosemaling
Inspired by the Norwegian folk art tradition of Rosemaling, this handcrafted motif appears throughout Mysa Hus in both expected and unexpected ways. From hand-painted murals and antique furnishings to wallpaper and decorative accents, each interpretation serves as a nod to the artistry and craftsmanship that shaped Scandinavian design. Together, these details create a sense of continuity throughout the home, honoring tradition while bringing warmth, character, and storytelling to each space.
12 — Pool and Patio
The pool and patio were designed as a natural extension of Mysa Hus, with the landscape, architecture, and outdoor living spaces envisioned together from the very beginning. Centered on the Wellness Center, the layout creates a private courtyard atmosphere filled with natural light and surrounded by thoughtfully layered plantings. Saltwater swimming, natural stone, outdoor dining, and carefully curated lighting work together to create a setting that feels both beautiful and restorative. Designed for gathering, relaxing, and everyday enjoyment, the space supports connection, wellness, and life outdoors.
13 — Lighting
Lighting was thoughtfully designed to support the mood and rhythm of daily life. Throughout Mysa Hus, warm-dim technology allows the light to become softer and warmer as it dims, mimicking the glow of candlelight and traditional incandescent bulbs. Custom lighting scenes can be tailored to different activities and times of day, creating spaces that feel welcoming, comfortable, and aligned with the home's wellness-focused philosophy. Subtle Scandinavian touches, including the words Velkomen (welcome) and Vi Ses (see you later), further connect the experience to the home's heritage.
14 — Mudroom Shelving
Filled with natural light, the mudroom was designed to feel less like a utility space and more like an extension of the home. Floating shelves suspended in front of the windows create a place for greenery, seasonal florals, and everyday beauty, while still allowing sunlight to pour through the room. Inspired by the simple ritual of bringing the outdoors in, the space encourages small, intentional moments, transforming a highly functional room into one that feels warm, welcoming, and unexpectedly delightful.
15 — Delft Tile
Delft tile has been telling stories for centuries, making it a natural fit for a home built around storytelling and craftsmanship. Hand-painted by a local artist, the tiles throughout Mysa Hus depict Minnesota-inspired landscapes and native florals, blending Scandinavian tradition with a sense of place. Whether featured in the kitchen or woven into the primary suite, each tile adds warmth, artistry, and a handcrafted connection to both heritage and home.
16 — Staircase
The entry was designed to create a lasting first impression. Soaring wood paneling, handcrafted details, and a custom iron railing work together to create a sense of warmth, scale, and welcome from the moment you step inside. Thoughtfully considered from the earliest stages of design, the space serves as a transition between the outside world and the experience of Mysa Hus. More than a collection of materials, the entry was designed around a simple goal: to create a feeling that stays with you long after you leave.
17 — Air & Water Wellness
Many of the wellness features in Mysa Hus are hidden behind the walls. Radiant heated floors, advanced air filtration, fresh air exchange, and the Naia whole-home water system work together to create a healthier living environment. By purifying air, filtering water, and remineralizing it with essential minerals, these systems quietly support the comfort, wellness, and everyday experience of the home.
18 — Dining Room
The dining room was designed to honor one of life's simplest pleasures: gathering around the table. A thoughtfully curated plate wall brings a sense of nostalgia and storytelling to the space, while the surrounding architectural details add warmth and character. Together, these elements create a setting that celebrates connection, conversation, and the memories made over a shared meal.
19 — Reading Nook
Designed as a quiet retreat within the home, the reading nook creates a cozy place to pause, read, create, and gather. Positioned at the top of the stairs, the space offers children a dedicated area for homework and creativity while remaining connected to the rhythms of family life. Comfortable, playful, and inviting, it reflects the belief that some of the best moments happen in the spaces between destinations.
20 — Owner’s Suite
The owner's suite was designed to feel like a retreat, balancing openness with the cozy scale that defines Mysa Hus. A vaulted ceiling and layers of natural light create an airy atmosphere, while double doors opening to the owner's bath add a sense of occasion and separation. Rather than maximizing square footage, the focus was on creating spaces that feel thoughtfully sized, comfortable, and deeply intentional, proving that a home doesn't need to be larger to feel special.
21 — Lower Level
Designed as a space for play, connection, and everyday family life, the lower level offers something for every age and interest. The golf simulator serves as both entertainment and training space, with technology that supports a variety of sports and interactive games. Paired with the adjacent game room, the lower level was intentionally created as a place where family and friends can gather, compete, laugh, and make memories together. Built to be used, enjoyed, and lived in, it reflects the belief that some of the best moments happen when people simply spend time together.
22 — Zellige Tile
This bath is defined by the beauty of handcrafted materials. Handmade Zellige tile, white oak, antique wood, and custom details create a space that feels warm, organic, and timeless. From the craftsmanship of the tile installation to the carefully considered finishing touches, every element was designed to celebrate the artistry and character that make handmade materials so special.
